The Eating Disorder Exercise Clinic

EDEC is a specialist online and in-person therapy service that is the first of its kind. We integrate physical and psychological approaches to empower you to find a healthy relationship with exercise whilst working on the eating disorder/disordered eating.

The clinic is primarily (but not exclusively) for those with an eating disorder or disordered eating who have unhealthy or addictive relationships with exercise. We also cater for athletes who have a complex relationship with food and exercise that is impacting on performance.

We pride ourselves on having a non-oppressive and collaborative approach as we acknowledge the importance of you being the lead in your treatment. We are passionate about helping you understand and manage your exercise so it becomes a positive and empowering aspect of your life.

Who do we support:
The EDEC supports a range of different people. We primarily see people who have an eating disorder or disordered eating alongside addictive and unhealthy relationships with exercise. We also see athletes of all abilities who have disordered eating.

Common diagnoses of people that attend the clinic:
Anorexia Nervosa, Bulimia Nervosa, Orthorexia, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, Binge Eating Disorder, OFSED, Personality Disorder, ADHD, Depression, Anorexia Athletica, Secondary Exercise Dependence, Muscle Dysmorphia, RED-S, Female Athlete Triad, ASD, PTSD.

Here at EDEC we primarily use the biopsychosocial model when addressing unhealthy and compulsive exercise. The model focuses on treating the person as a whole instead of just the impairment. Within the model we use approaches such as Dialectical behavioural therapy, Cognitive behavioural therapy, DBT prolonged exposure therapy and Physiotherapy.

-Return to exercise/sport sessions
-Group therapy
-Support for sport teams/organisations
-The Recovery Boxing Club
