Surrey-wide Eating Disorders Service - Children and Young People

We are a Surrey-wide service for people up to 18 years of age with eating disorders such as Bulimia Nervosa, Anorexia Nervosa, Avoidant/Restrictive Food Intake Disorder (ARFID) and Binge Eating Disorder.
We offer an intensive multi-disciplinary assessment and community treatment programme with evidenced-based treatments and have excellent links with the Adult Eating Disorder service and in-patient services.
Our service is led by medical professionals and offers:

routine assessments within 15 days and urgent assessments within 5 days of an appropriate referral being received.
psycho-education for both young people and parents about eating disorders and their effects on the young person's development (physical and emotional), psychological, social and family aspects.
NICE-concordant treatments including Family Based Treatment, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and group therapies as required.
access to paediatric beds at local hospitals for medically-compromised children and young people and to adolescent in-patient units or private eating disorder units. We ensure that there is an agreed medical protocol and that the duration of inpatient stays and care plans are reviewed regularly.

We also work very closely with:

other children and young people's mental health services - by offering consultations, second opinions, and comprehensive care.
schools - to make sure there is appropriate support during times of medical monitoring.
inpatient units - to ensure a safe and well co-ordinated discharge back home.
primary care doctors - for appropriate medical monitoring at times of medical crises.
parents and carers - through regular family appointments, parent's groups and family therapy.
primary care and adult services - to ensure continuity of care.

We take part in multi-centre national research projects in both Anorexia Nervosa and Bulimia Nervosa and conducts regular clinical audits to evaluate the effectiveness of our service and provide training, supervision and consultation on a local and national level.
