Stephanie Radford @ Northern Aurora

My name is Stephanie Radford MBACP (she/her/hers), founder of Northern Aurora Counselling – and I’d love to help you get to a place where food, your weight and your body shape no longer rule your life, ruin your day, and interrupt the things you’d rather be putting energy into.

I have worked extensively as an integrative psychotherapeutic counsellor since 2015, and specialising in disordered eating and body image issues since 2018. I believe that the treatment of eating issues and body concerns in the UK is still very misunderstood – the general tide of diet culture and normalisation of disordered eating habits and restrictive dieting has created a multitude of issues that may fly under the radar, being perceived as “okay” or even praised – when the person remains trapped by constant planning, bargaining and compensatory behaviour such as exercising heavily to punish themselves for over-eating.

I am a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy, and recently completed a certification with the Online Therapy Institute, in order to conduct video counselling as safely and securely as possible. I intend to continue to practice via Zoom using end-to-end encryption for the remainder of the COVID-19 pandemic and into the future – I find the flexibility and sense of comfort this offers people to be beneficial (plus no parking fees!).

I believe in a weight inclusive, LGBTQIA+ inclusive, anti-racist environment, in which people of all physical abilities can feel respected and understood. I aim to create a practice that is as welcoming and friendly as possible, working collaboratively with you and perhaps even having some fun along the journey – therapy does not need to be a solemn space if this doesn’t benefit you!
