Recovery coaching for disordered eating is our one-to-one coaching support programme for adults (aged 18+) experiencing disordered eating, or with an eating disorder, who don’t meet the diagnostic criteria for treatment, and/or are not currently accessing any eating disorder treatment.

The programme is aimed at those suitable for early intervention and in the first 5 years of their recovery journey. The intended outcome is to reduce disordered eating symptoms, avoid relapse, and move towards recovery.

Once referred to the programme, we will make an initial email contact to request further information. Then, if appropriate, we may arrange a suitability assessment, where we will gain a deeper understanding of the frequency and impact of the disordered behaviours and the motivations to engage with a self-help programme.

Those suitable will be allocated a programme officer and will commence their coaching support.

The Programme

Recovery coaching for disordered eating consists of twelve weekly 40-minute video call sessions. Working with one of our programme officer, participants are supported to work through a series of modules from the Centre for Clinical Interventions “Break Free From ED” programme.

The modules are informed by evidence-based treatments, and reference materials by leading eating disorder clinicians including Glenn Waller, Christopher Fairburn and Tracey Wade.

This is a coaching service, so the aim isn’t to tell people what to do. Weekly sessions offer a supportive, safe, and confidential space, with the programme officer acting as a sounding board, setting achievable goals, and gently guiding individuals to develop the skills needed to challenge their eating disorder behaviours and make positive change.
