Mala Watts
I have over 20 years' experience working with adults as well as children and young people with eating disorders and disordered eating/ eating difficulties. Patients have told me my warm and caring personality comes through in the sessions. With children and young people, my strengths include my extensive skills working with parents to support their child with weight restoration. I have more than 6 years' experience offering Family Based Treatment (FBT). FBT has the strongest evidence for the management of eating disorders. I have experience working with young people who have ASD, ADHD and anxiety. I have some personal experience as a parent negotiating the SEN system over many years. This experience I believe has been invaluable in truly understanding the day-to-day challenges parents face when one child has particular needs. I am therefore able to tailor my advice and support parents through challenging times. I am also very familiar with vegetarian and vegan diets. I have a keen interest in sports nutrition which compliments my work with eating disorders/disordered eating patients and those with eating difficulties, as exercise can be a key feature

After discovering that our 13 year old daughter has an eating disorder, we looked for a dietitian who worked with FBT and luckily found Mala Watts. We had an initial first meeting online and immediately connected with her; she is warm and empathic and has a direct approach that we felt was important. It became clear that she was very experienced and I felt we had been lucky to find her. My husband and I have been working with Mala for over 5 months now. Our daughter’s presentation has proved to be quite complex and Mala has understood our daughter’s difficulties, which possibly include ASD and ARFID/Atypical Anorexia and has treated her as an individual with her own unique needs, letting us lead where possible and always being a support to us as parents as we navigate this difficult time in our daughters life.

Mostly I think I need to say a huge huge massive massive thank you! You’ve been so amazing and helped me (and my parents) so much.
