Fife Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service

Fife CAMHS is a service for children and young people up to 18 years old who are experiencing persistent, complex or severe mental health difficulties.

CAMHS is a multi-disciplinary service which includes:

Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, Mental Health Nursing, Clinical Psychology, Child Psychotherapy, Occupational Therapy, Systemic Psychotherapy, Specialist Dietetics, Art Therapy & Social Work.

CAMHS provides services across Fife through various different teams designed to meet the needs of children and young people with complex mental health difficulties.

The teams include:

  • CAMHS Primary Mental Health Workers (PMHW)
  • Generic Multi-disciplinary CAMHS teams in the East and West of Fife
  • Self Harm Support Service
  • Family Therapy Service
  • Therapeutic services for looked after children (The Beeches & Springfield Project)
  • Centre for the Vulnerable Child (CVC) Intensive Therapy Service (ITS)

Referral Criteria & Process

Any professional working with children and young people can refer to CAMHS. Professionals from a non-health background should consider liaising with the CAMHS PMHW or discussing with the team around the child prior to referral. Referrals should be made to Fife CAMHS where: • a child/young person has or is suspected to have a mental disorder or other condition that results in persistent symptoms of psychological distress. and • the child/young person is experiencing serious or persistent impairment to their day to day functioning. and/or • There is associated risk that the child/young person may cause serious harm to themselves or to others


The CAMHS teams provide specialist assessment and a range of evidence-based, therapeutic interventions to individuals, groups, families/carers and wider support networks depending on the presenting need. CAMHS also provides consultation and supervision to professionals who support children and young people with mental health issues. Our staff are qualified to deliver a broad range of therapies including:  Family Based Therapy  Behavioural Family Therapy  Cognitive Behavioural Therapy  Solution Focused Brief Therapy  EMDR  Interpersonal Psychotherapy  Specialist Psychiatric and Psychological assessments  Systemic Family Therapy  Psychotherapy  Group Therapy for specific disorders  Nursing , Occupational, Dietetic & Physical assessment  Formal Parenting Work & Parental Training Programmes
