I am a Chartered Clinical Psychologist (CPsychol), accredited by the British Psychological Society (BPS: 345831) and recognised as Associate Fellow (AFBPsS). I am also registered as Clinical Psychologist with the Health Care and Professions Council (HCPC: PYL29788).

I have considerable experience of treating Eating Disorders (EDs) in all age ranges, and the pathologies associated with them (e.g. Obsessive Compulsive Disorders, Depression, Anxiety, Phobias).

I currently provide therapy and research within an EDs inpatient service “ Rhodes Wood Hospital, Elysium Healthcare- (London) (http://www.careukeatingdisorders.com/rhodes-farm/).

During the course of my career as a Clinical Psychologist, I have had the opportunity to work extensively in the specialist area of EDs (Anorexia Nervosa, Bulimia Nervosa, Binge Eating Disorders) in both young people and adults.

I have a strong academic and research background both in Europe and the UK.

In my private practice, I offer a range of psychological interventions, including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Cognitive Remediation Therapy, Motivational Enhancement Therapy and Interpersonal Therapy. I tailor my approach according to the needs of each individual who comes to see me.

Over the course of the several years of training required to become a Clinical Psychologist, I found myself continually stimulated by the latest studies in cognitive and affective psychology, and the psychodynamic schools of thought. These subject areas fed into and enriched each other, and convinced me of the risk of trying to marry a single, overarching theory to explain the mind's subtleties and complexity.

This realisation led me to adopt a psychologically dialectical stance: It allows me to know you in your own uniqueness, and take into account the way in which your personal and social needs interact with each other. Additionally, it lets me appreciate the role that these needs play in your own socio-cultural context. The therapeutic relationship provides an opportunity to better understand and overcome your suffering, but also to further develop yourself and your aptitudes within both the local and broader social backdrop.

I also use different interventions deriving from a wide range of psychological theories, including motivational enhancement therapy, interpersonal therapy and cognitive behavioural therapy. These are deployed to help you to manage your difficulties and to be able to fully express your potential. Each of these models brings its own valuable perspective to an issue, but can also be enhanced when carefully integrated with another model.

The therapy encourages us to see ourselves as active participants in our lives: We have the potential to further develop ourselves and achieve change in ways that work for us. Exploring thoughts, feelings and behaviours, reinforcing the interconnection between body and mind, and improving the relationship with the self and the others are at the heart of the therapeutic process. We are all born into a relationship, and so a therapeutic relationship with someone who knows the parameters of emotional, social and cognitive health is the cornerstone of the recovery and self-development journey.

Referral Criteria & Process

I accept requests for appointments directly from you, or from my colleagues and GPs. After an initial conversation by telephone or email, I will suggest that we arrange one or two meetings to understand your main needs. The purpose of this is to give us an opportunity to begin talking about your requirements and wishes, and to explore the appropriateness of different types of therapy for you.

The length of treatment will vary according to your needs, but is agreed before treatment begins, and regularly reviewed. If we agree to work together, practical details such as a regular day and time for your session will be discussed. Sessions last for 50 minutes.

Having a set time and regular day for sessions is very important to give a sense of continuity and security to the process of the therapy. I work within the strict guidelines laid down for the profession, have regular supervision, and undertake professional development.

I provide therapy in English and Italian and I am a registered provider with BUPA, AXA-PPP and GeoBlue.

If it is difficult for you to come to me because of travel considerations, or for any other reason, I also offer online consultations and therapy. If you are interested in this option, I invite you to read the Online Therapy section for more details http://www.londonpsychologistonline.com/online-therapy/
