Professional Doctorate in Counselling Psychology
Transference Focused Psychotherapy
Training
My first professional training was in mental health nursing, and I also trained as a CBT therapist. However, my clinical and therapeutic practice has been increasingly and now predominantly psychodynamic over the last five years.
My psychodynamic training took place through, alongside, and since completing my Doctorate in Counselling Psychology. This has included training in transference focused psychotherapy, which can be of particular benefit for people with the sort of identity, relationship, self-neglect, and active self-harming type troubles, in which eating disorders are often implicated.
Experience
I have worked as a therapist in NHS specialised eating disorder services since 2013, where I've been employed as a Principal Psychological Therapist for the last few years. I have also run a small private therapy practice since 2021.
In addition to researching CBT for eating disorders, and recently publishing a co-authored a book in this area; I also have an interest in LGBTQ+ eating disorder experiences. My doctoral research focused upon the lived eating disorder experiences of bisexual people.
I am actively involved in various Equality Diversity and Inclusion projects, with a particular focus on gender and sexualities; racism; and trauma.
